Jamestown, RI is a popular vacation destination situated on Conanicut Island in Narragansett Bay. It has a rich history and is known for its picturesque beaches, vibrant harbor, and lively downtown area. Despite being a small coastal town, Jamestown’s political landscape is no less active than its surrounding cities and towns. The town is governed by both the Town Council and School Committee, which are comprised of local elected officials from districts throughout Jamestown. The current mayor of Jamestown is Henry ‘Hank’ Sibley Jr., who was elected in 2017 following three terms as Town Council President. Additionally, the Town Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the town government and serves as an advisor to the Town Council. On the state level, Jamestown residents are represented in Rhode Island by Senator Dawn Euer and Representative Lauren Carson in District 13. On a national level, residents are represented by Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse along with Representative James Langevin in Congress. Despite its size, Jamestown still maintains an active political culture with plenty of opportunities for residents to get involved in their own local government operations.

Here at BestPlaces, we were looking at the voting patterns since the 2000 election and realized that we could express the results of each election as one letter. R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).
